fun with misheard lyrics

I was listening to Tori's "To Venus and Back" album in the car, and "Glory of the 80's" was on. I thought, "hey, I like this song, I'll sing along." And then I realized I didn't know half the words, even though I've heard the song a million times and used to listen to the album repeatedly on the bus in high school. But it's really hard to tell what she's singing. So I thought I'd try to figure out the words before actually looking them up (my ears hear some pretty amusing things when they don't know what they're hearing).

The thing about Tori is that a lot of the time, you can't tell what the heck she's singing (she doesn't always enunciate, and she likes to either mispronounce vowels, use several of them, or in the case of "Bouncing Off Clouds," every single vowel in just one word), and even when you look up the lyrics, they often don't make much sense. But I think that's half the reason I like her. :D

What I hear:

I took a taxi from (erlaladonies?) in 1985.
I was electromagnetically sucked back into a party going on all night.
It was the glories of the 80's, a comma drawn up in lines
and to be a (boo born mada seen?) baby it's freebie if sure love (deep fried/deprived?).
A story of all in my bucket seat in my wannabe Mustang.
Auditioning four red tires and the rucker Welsh campaign,
it was the glories of the 80's, he said "I'm not afraid to die."
I said, "I don't find that remotely funny," and on a space key card.
And then when it all seemed clear, just then, you go and disappear, disappear, disappear.
So I come party Bob is to be lived and Joan of Arc's to invite no
and feeling insecure, we were all gorge and famous in our last lives.
And the glories of the 80's, he said, "and there's nothing to fear,"
I said "blow the end now baby, we gotta shag to get out of here."
And then when it all seemed clear, just then, you go and disappear, disappear, disappear, disappear.
Sure you love a rotting ra-am, sure you love a rotting ra-am, wish I had (a bang/again/it then?).
Sure you love a rotting ra-am, sure you love a rotting ra-am, wish I had (a bang/again/it then?).
I met a drag king confusion, lover heart bran.
She said, "my husband ran off with my shaman, but they love me as I am."
And the glories of the 80's and not have to die.
I cloned myself like a blond sheep but since Betty Davis eyes.
And then when it all seemed clear, just then, you go and... disappear, disappear, disappear, disappear.
I took a taxi from (erlaladonies?) in 1980 1980 1980 1985.

The actual lyrics (from hereinmyhead.com):

i took a taxi from la to venus in 1985
i was electromagnetically sucked back
into a party going on that night
it was the glories of the 80's
with karma drawn up in lines
and two bugle boy models saying, 'baby,
it's free-bee you sure look deprived'
i had the 'story of o' in my bucket seat
of my wanna be mustang
auditioning for reptiles in their
racquel welsh campaign
in the glories of the 80's
you said, 'i'm not afraid to die'
i said i don't find that remotely funny
even on this space cake high
and then it all seemed clear
just then you go and disappear
silicone party barbies to the left and
joan of arcs to the right
no one feeling insecure we were
all gorge and famous in our last lives
and the glories of the 80's you said
'the end is nothing to fear' i said
blow the end now baby
who do i gotta shag to get outta here
and then when it all seemed clear
just then you go and disappear
sure you're out there orbiting around
wish i had you back now
i met a drag king call venus
she had a velvet hologram she said
'my husband ran off with my shaman
but they love me as i am'
in the glories of the 80's
i may not have to die
i'll clone myself
like that blonde chick
that sings betty davis eyes
and then when it all seemed clear
just then you go and disappear

...Well. Uh. It's a trippy song about... a trippy experience, I guess. But I like it.
