We have rat-puppies! I'd been looking for a pal for Jiraiya, and I contacted someone about a rat advertised on Craigslist. That one had been sold, but they had babies available. So I adopted two little baby rats yesterday. One is a light beige (like Dante was), and the other is white with a brown cap. They are very small (about 1/4 the size of an adult), about 6-7 weeks old, and very friendly. We named the beige one Alton and the capped one Emeril. Emeril is a little spaz and likes to sit right in the food bowl while eating. He also comes when you say "Bam! Bam! Bam!" Alton is baby-hyper too but less of a spaz. Liz was over, having a beer, and they were licking the condensation off the side. They even tried to climb up the bottle and drink from the rim, which was hilariously cute. I'd have taken pictures, but my camera is at my mom's house. I'll take pictures soon. Jiraiya seemed interested in the smell of other rats and came out of his igloo (where he spends 95% of his time, the non-social little bugger). I let him wander around outside the cages, and he and the babies went nose to nose through the bars. I later introduced the 3 of them on the couch. Jiraiya was being a perv (like his namesake) and running around sniffing the babies' balls (unlike his namesake, who would probably just spy on the girl rats, if I had any). But they all got along. Jiraiya then decided to do his favorite activity, wedging himself in the tight, dark space under a cushion, while the babies ran around. It's really funny, they'll chase your finger around, and sometimes they'll pounce and nip it gently, like a kitten. Gah, overdose of cute. There will be pictures eventually, once I get my camera, take some, and remember where the heck I put my camera cable.

Well, NaNoWriMo is over. In one way, I failed to meet my original goal, but I didn't fail epically, and I did make good progress. The original goal…
