Weee, another controversial meme...

[1] Would you do meth if it was legalized?

No way.

[2] Abortion: for or against it?

I think it's a personal choice. It should be safe and legal, but people need to be educated (or educate themselves) about the various methods of birth control available. If you're going to have sex, you need to do it responsibly and be prepared to deal with the consequences. I also think if people were better educated about safe sex, abortion wouldn't be as big of an issue. Still, it's your right to do with your body as you please. A life is a life, and I personally think abortion is sort of like cutting down a tree or euthanizing an animal, but sometimes you have to destroy life in order to preserve life (unless you only eat fallen fruit and that sort of thing). A woman should never have to carry a rapist's child or carry out a pregnancy that threatens her life. However, partial-birth abortion is just plain barbaric and should be illegal except in dire circumstances.

[3] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?

No. I don't think a person's gender seriously affects their abilities to make wise decisions. And really, is America so vain that it believes the whole world will "fail" if we have a bad president? The world survived the last 8 years with Bush. It lost a few hitpoints, but it's still there. The world survived Hitler, so I think we're fairly safe no matter who ends up becoming president. Even if Sarah Palin ends up in the oval office and we all smack our heads repeatedly against the wall, life will go on.

[4] Do you believe in the death penalty?

Only in cases where you're dealing with a proven murderer who is clearly deranged and shows no potential for rehabilitation. Just shoot the person already, the world will be a better place without him/her.

[5] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?

I don't "wish" it, since I have no desire to use marijuana, but I think it's ridiculous that marijuana is illegal when it's less harmful than cigarettes and alcohol, and the police force wastes time, money, and energy arresting people for possessing and using it when they could be fighting real crime. If people are going to habitually use marijuana and mess up their lives, so be it. It's their choice, and they're going to do it whether it's legal or not. After all, it's perfectly legal to be an alcoholic or smoker, and those addictions are a lot worse than being a pothead.

[6] Are you for or against premarital sex?

It's a matter of personal choice and nobody's business but your own. As long as you're ready and safe, I don't think it matters whether you're married or not. But I do think having a baby out of wedlock is a really stupid idea, unless you made the conscious, committed decision to have a baby with your partner, or just want to raise it yourself.

[7] Do you believe in God?

I think humans create gods. So they exist in some way. Religion is a human creation. The gods might be real, but religion is a human interpretation of what God is and how God wants people to live and worship. I think all spiritual paths are legitimate to some degree, but people have to realize that religion (by this, I mean particular branches with different laws and rituals, not God itself) is a human thing, and humans interpret (or just invent) the rules, moral codes, and practices. After all, the Bible was written by mortals. And we can all see how diverse Christianity is, from the crazy FLDS sect to the "anything goes" Unitarians. Same God, different human interpretations.

[8] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?

Yes. And it's none of the government's business. I also think polgamy should be legal, and there shouldn't be a stigma about arranged marriages, provided that they're between freely consenting adults.

[9] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?

No, and building a big fence isn't going to keep them out. I think the government should offer them citizenship if they can speak English fluently (or are willing to learn) and be productive, working members of society. After all, the vast majority of people living in this country are either immigrants themselves or descendants of immigrants.

[10] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?

It's up to the girl herself, with the help of her family, friends, and doctor. It's nobody else's business.

[11] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?

[12] Should the war in Iraq be called off?

The war needs to end, but we shouldn't pull troops out until they clean up the mess they made (or rather, the mess they were ordered to make).

[13] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?

If we don't get a choice when we come into this world, we at least deserve a choice when we leave it. And for some people, especially with chronic, uncurable illnesses, living is torture. We euthanize our pets when we know they're in pain and will never recover. It's considered the humane thing to do, although nobody wants to have to make that choice. The least we can do is offer people the same courtesy.

[14] Do you believe in spanking your children?

I have no children, but I wouldn't spank them. It only frightens and hurts them. The punishment should fit the crime and teach them the consequences of their actions.

[15] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?

Well... it's kind of like that "would you wear white robes and burn a cross for a million dollars?" question. I'd do it (that's a crapload of money), since it's merely a piece of cloth and only carries as much significance as you add to it, but not where others could see and get the wrong idea. I'd feel kind of weird, since it's a sacred symbol to many people, but sometimes a flag is just a piece of cloth.

[16] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?

I'd say Obama. He's more likely to drag the economy out of the mess it's in, and McCain seems fairly clueless in that area. The way things are going now, if the economy continues to plummet, it won't be a matter of if it will crash, but when. I have a lot of friends who are having really rotten luck job-hunting, even though they're intelligent, educated, and capable. I think that if Obama wins, maybe their luck will change (of course, I hope they'll find decent jobs before the election, but perhaps that's just wishful thinking). Also, enough with the war already. And Sarah Palin is just... a joke.

[17] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?

I don't particularly care. I know who my real friends are, and they're the only ones who matter to me.
