Writer's Block: Auld Lang Syne

I returned from North Carolina yesterday evening. It was a pretty good visit. I got pounced on a lot, and after giving piggyback rides to 5 kids all weekend, I'm kinda sore. I ate the brains of 3 little boys and had my head blown off and reattached countless times. Getting whacked in the teeth with a lightsaber is no fun. Neither is taking a German Shepherd skull to the lower jaw. I think I woke up with a cold this morning, which is often an unfortunate side effect of hanging around lots of kids.

Anyway, we ate a lot of food and traded presents and stuff. My uncle Glen has been living at Grandma's house for a few months now (she had back surgery and is now in a wheelchair, so she moved to a really nice assisted living place, and he's in the process of moving after retiring from the police force), and my aunt Ava was flying in from Washington, so we went over to his place to help him clean up. He was feeling really self-conscious and embarrassed about it because he overheard Katie commenting on how she heard it was a huge, nasty mess or something. But my dad convinced him to let us help. I mean, I'm not one to judge. I have no right to criticize anyone's housekeeping, especially since I've been known to slack off in that area... a lot... to the point where it gets downright revolting. But the majority of the cleaning involved getting dog piss stains out of the carpet. Glen has 3 dogs with him right now, and they probably caused about 90% of the mess we cleaned up. Phew.

My cousins got kittens! There's a gray/white one named Freddy and a teeny black one named Nikki. They pretty much rescued them from a craptastic pet store and got them to the vet. Nikki is probably too young to even be away from her mother, but they'll probably be fine in a few weeks. They're both friendly and sweet, and Freddy is very affectionate. Having 2 baby kittens snuggling in your lap is pure bliss.

I'm still exhausted and dealing with social burnout, so I will probably spend most of the next few days at home, avoiding people.

For those who are into such things, this might be the biggest party night of the year. Other people like to keep it a little more low key. How do you plan to ring in the New Year?

I decided to stay home tonight and make myself hot tea and watch movies with my cats. I'm tired of being around other people, and I think I'm coming down with something anyway. I'll probably play Runescape and Subeta for a few hours, watch a movie or two (or maybe those Pushing Daisies episodes I Netflixed), and conk out on the couch right after midnight.

On my day off tomorrow, I'll probably do laundry, put some of the stuff back in the kitchen and dining room (the new paint jobs look AWESOME), do some knitting, and play copious amounts of video games.
