Writer's Block: Single pride day

Given that we're less than a week out from Valentines, how do you feel about the approaching holiday? Will you participate or abstain? If you're not in a relationship, how will you celebrate your single status?

I think it's a silly fake holiday. It's way overcommercialized (like most holidays), and it's just ridiculous. The mushiness, all the pink (eww), the yucky candy hearts that taste like Tums... The only good thing is the candy sales on the 15th. You can get some good, fancy chocolates cheap. But I do miss taking Derek to Compadres for his birthday.

I'm going to the Pittsburgh Knitting Festival on the 14th. Because I do love yarn. And I don't have to buy it a cheesy card to show my appreciation. I just have to shove my sticks in it repeatedly. Ohhhyeah, baby!

Being single is awesome. I don't have to put up with some bossy, needy cling-on who calls me three times a day. I don't feel trapped in a dead-end relationship. I'm not pressured to marry or start popping out tiny, screaming poop machines. I can do what I want. I like being a crazy cat lady. Besides, I couldn't handle a relationship even if I wanted one. I suck at communication, I'm not affectionate, and I'm a hermit. I don't like commitments or feeling restrained. I like my freedom, and I'm going to preserve it. And no stupid fake holiday is going to make me feel guilty or lonely.

Anyway, I bought a harness and leash so I can start leash-training Hagrid. He's about 4 1/2 months old and is nearly the size of my adult cats, but someday he'll be so big that he probably won't fit in the cat carriers, and I might as well train him to use a leash so I don't have to wrestle with a 20-pound fuzzy ball of claws when it's time to go to the vet. He was a good sport last time, though. Now he's running around, playing with everything he can get his paws on, and chasing the others. They're not sure if they want to roughhouse with him yet, but they don't mind when he's affectionate towards them. He's very sweet and will just flop over at my feet when I reach down to pet him (and then he purrs like crazy). Bouncer actually gets along with him better than she gets along with Galahad, which is surprising.
